Just wanted to let everyone know about the 24th Annual KNA Coin & Stamp Show this weekend in Wichita, KS at the Cessna Activity Center. I try to make it every year. This year is going to be kind of cool because my wife said she finally wants to go and there will be people there that I know from the Lawrence Coin Club. My only main hitch is that I won't have enough money to really spend. Of course, I could win the lottery and still have the same problem. Hope some of you make it.
I guess many people don't appreciate how seldom in some areas coin shows happen. I used to post stories about going to coin shows but since there are now 3 a month in the area, it is almost like going to the grocery store. Then we have the occational big ones like the one coming up June 21 to 24th. MidAmerica Coin Expo.
It's a really good show. Lots of people. However, Kansas is one of the few states in the midwest that still has no tax exemption on coin and precious metal purchases. It really hurts the state because if there is a show in a neighboring state the same weekend as a Kansas show, people will make the extra drive to save on their investments. That means lost dollars for Kansas. Not only lost revenue at the show, but lost revenue at local hotels and restaurants. Of course, what do I know? We've been trying for years to get it passed. It's finally making progress, but no guarantee.
