Kind of an odd money day at work

Had a coworker bring in a freezer bag of notes today for me to look at. They were notes his father collected from the late 50's to the early 70's both at his business and during travels overseas. I told him to take the 30 some-odd 1957 SC's and spend them in town. He folded them into his pocket and said he would buy gas with them on his way home from work. I gave him back about 40 foreign notes and told him to put them back in his sock drawer as they had little to no value. Twelve notes I brought home. Some of these are for my collection and the rest will find homes in someone else's collection. Three of the notes had an interesting story that went with them. He said a client came into his Dad's place of business and gave them to him. He said that they would be worth money someday. A couple days later the same guy is found in his car with two new holes in his head.

So I am glad to add some foreign notes to my collection but there is more sad news to go with this story. Almost all of the notes suffer from the same fate - I will let the pictures explain... The 5 to the right are the notes that were added to my collection.

    Any Thoughts???

Interesting notes, I like that ten cent fractional.

Whose signatures are on that 2 dollar red seal?

The $2 bills are legal tender notes which differ from federal reserve notes because they have red seals and serial numbers instead of green on federal reserve notes. I can't see the dates, but they should be either 1928, or 1953 I think.
Nice pickups!!! I can't see what you are talking about with the notes on the right though...

Those are "United States Notes" issued and backed by the government to help build confidence in our countries currency back in the day.

That is the key to the other sad part of the story. Here is the reverse side of the notes:

I know it is hard to see but my friends dad felt he needed to put his name and the date he received them on almost all of the notes :( as well as any important information about how or who he got them from. :headbang:

It broke my heart to see the writing on the fractionals, the 37 & 54 Canadian, as well as the USN $2's. The rest were not going to be worth much anyways but those listed above would have had a nice little premium if not for the ink. He knew it and was happy that I gave him what I did for the 5 notes I wanted. Told him I would see what I could do with the rest but not to expect too much. They will go the way of the bay when I get time.
