Here's my son Henry with his spread of world coins from a couple recent hauls. He just can't get enough of the excitement of unpacking and sorting. Great learning opportunity and priceless father-son time. If there are other forum members out there with young numistmatists in the house, we could work out a kids swap circle pen pal situation.
Awesome! Great to see the hobby passed on to younger generations. This is exactly how the it started for me, grandfather-father-son bonding. Probably why I love it so much.
A kid swap??? Who wants my 19 year old. The college tuition is a killer... Old photo of my current 14 year old-- Sadly, he is not so interested anymore.
My kids refer to me, and all of you, as those "coin people" The youngest is slowly coming around to the dark side
Hi @lordmarcovan! I am right here! I've been cleaning my ancient coins and will be posting what I have been working on soon. I find it to be tons of fun, thrilling, albeit extremely addictive and time-consuming. There is almost nothing else I would rather be doing since I started that activity! Hope all is well with you and thanks for giving me a shout out!
I've got my 6 year old pretty hooked. He loves checking coin star and finding foreign coins. His oldest find so afr is a 1918 Germany 5 Pfennig but his favorite is is "England coin", Great Britain 1p with part of the shield design on the reverse. He also loves helping me search halves every week. Hopefully I can get my daughter in on the hobby when she gets a bit older
Awesome photos. I have 3 collectors who are 6, 9 and 13 that all collect different things. My 6 year old likes rainbow toned coins, my 9 likes large cents and bullion and my 13 is the local expert on Chinese and Japanese coins. Here he is giving a Japanese coin presentation at a coin club meeting!!
My 6 year old's fortes are rainbow toners, damaged coins and what he calls "the big dogs" (crowns, dollars and 18th century pennies).
That is super cool! I'm 0/2 for collecting in my kiddos. 3/3 is impressive. What level of Japanese is the oldest collecting? I may be able to put together a group for him if I have an idea what he'd be looking for. I've been trying to do a bit of downsizing and was looking for YNs if interested...oddly a YN into Japanese coins is not something I run across every day. If you send a PM I can see if there is something I can put together. Does he have a Dansco Japan Type album? The albums can be a bit pricey but might be an excellent gift for him if you run across one on eBay or somewhere. The middle child sounds practical...bullion! The best part of bullion is they are coins that can be converted to other coins very easily . And rainbows huh? Hmm...into eye candy already.
