I had the kids home for the holiday of Purim and so they had a chance to look through the stockpile of coins I had been aquiring for them, and they seemed to have had a good time with them over dinner. There is nothing more dangerous than a 10 year old little girl with a magnifying glass ..

BTW - Those NGC "First Strike" American Eagles arrived in time for them yesterday and the coins look decent. 3 of the 5 have zero scratches on the satin finish whatsoever.

It is always a delicate balance betwixt promoting a hobby and smothering them in your interests. Both of my children have some interests in coins, but usually for different reasons. My daughter has an eye for the valuable stuff and can buy stuff at a fraction of the value, if you ask her how she knew, she has no idea. My son on the other hand overpays.

They seem to scoop this stuff up fast and furously. There are six of them so as soon as one shows interest, they all jump in. I'm not pushing coin collecting on them. They can collect or not, I don't care. Those that like it I share with. Those that find it boring, so be it. There are bigger fish to fry, like getting them to do and appreciate Math. But I keep them busy with a lot of intersts and hobbies.

Coins, Fishing, Theater, Art, Computers, History, Comic Books, Nature, and more...

Without bragging, most people would have died to have a father like me....I never stop moving, never stop learning, never stop .... and they are always in for the ride.

More coin collectors. Every year I give proof sets to young relatives in order to inspire coin collecting and then I say to myself, SELF, what are you doing. Now there will be less coins out there for me.

    Purim Pics and Israeli Coins

There was a message, but it was deleted.....

Are they interested in Israeli Coins and medals? They are so rich in history and relatively inexpensive compared to their American Counterparts. I put together some great links for Israeli coin and Stamp collecting. Here it is... LINK There are even some Israeli issues dedicated to Purim.

    Great photos.

    Happy Purim and Shabbat Shalom.

Great looking family mrbrklyn. I'm happy to see them sharing in your hobby, but even more happy just to see your family doing something together.

i was interested in Israeli coins and it seemed overwhelming, especially the commemoratives. Generally I stay away from Commemoratives, but it seems that with the Israeli coins, this is the bread and butter of their coinage. I liked the animal series, and some of the historical/biblical themes.

I'd probably also like to eventually dabble in ancient coins.

No, the microscope is used when we think we may have an error, them we put the digital camera lens to the eye of the scope and come out with huge pics.

Collecting and classifying Microbrobs can be an exciting, inexpensive and fun filled hobby for the entire family!
