I am starting a thread on key date coins that somehow survived circulation during the early days of the United States.

I have several that I will post as time allows.

First up is an S-266 1804 large cent. The die breaks make this one of my favorite coins. I wish this coin could talk, I would listen for hours. image.jpeg image.jpeg I

Define "early days of the US". Does this count?

Here is a S-4 1793 Chain Cent. It looks like it fell through the floor boards of an old cabin and was found in the dirt a couple hundred years later. I'm only showing the chain as the front is visible but will not photograph.

Love it! A great coin. It's the only one I don't have, the weak D. I have the strong.

Well worn but problem free. This one passed through a lot of hands image.jpeg image.jpeg

Is the one-year-only 1853 Half Dollar a key date?

This was rescued from circulation by my Grandmother 70+ years ago:

Regardless of condition, it's a favorite of mine.
