do u guys think it would be smart to buy keelboat nickels now??? $80 per 1000. roughly $0.08 per coin did ur banks have rolls of these when they came out?? Will their values grow rapidly under demand? or do u think they will?
That's a crystal ball question - there's no way to know. It's anybody's guess as to what coin will do this or that price wise. Sometimes they shoot up in value when they are first released and then drop. Sometimes they stay high for a few years and then drop. And sometimes they just keep going up in price. If a collector knew those answers ahead of time - well he could have anything he wanted.
I don't think they will....they don't have any type of metal like silver or such...but I also know others that they the other way... Speedy
Eh? I put several rolls of uncircs. away just in case. I think that's all you can do as a collector. Seeing into the future...that's coin dealer territory.
well they gotta go more up more than 8 cents each right??? say a couple years or whatever. What do u guys think the bisons will do?
Things like this tend to cycle up then down. If you buy at 8c and sell when (if) they hit 25c, that would be good. Long term prognosis is that there will be plenty for everybody and 8c apiece is a lot when my bank sells them for 5c each. If you have $80 to invest in nickels, get some nice early Jeff's, like some 1938 - 1942 in gemmy condition.
The CDB Dictionary of Numismatic Terms defines GEMMY as: "Exhibiting the characteristics of a premium MS65 or better coin, including above average luster, strike, and brilliance, with very little toning. However, some attractive light to medium toning may be acceptable if it enhances the overall appearance of the coin (mostly in the eye of the beholder). Heavy toning should be avoided, especially if it is a dazzling solid blue."
If you are not confident in buying 1000, then get a few rolls here and there at your dealer or ebay. Ebay of course costs more for shipping than the coins may be worth. I have been finding BU keelboats in bankrolls. There is usually not but 4 or 5 in a roll, but at least they are face value. I also grabbed a few rolls from my dealer. My thinking is that in 30 years, I might wish I had gotten some of them. So it is worth a little now. What kind of collector would I be if I didn't get something like that when it was new, and relatively inexpensive? Everyone has their individual budget concerns, but if I knew where to get 1000 for $80, I would probably get it.
Sorry, Spidey, not any more.... See for yourself here. Well, at least this makes your decision a whole lot easier! - Andrew
