So I'm completely new to this whole coin thing and must admit that I'm quickly getting sucked in. I've got in my possession a 2005-P Kansas quarter with the reverse clad missing. It weighs in at about 4.67 grams...should take it to a jeweler to have it weighed more accurately...in any case, it's lighter than is normal. Here's a picture that approximates what mine looks like (this picture is, at least to me, identical to my quarter. Just wondering if anyone knows whether or not many of these coins are in existence and what something like this could go for on the market (on ebay I saw prices ranging from about $400 to $1200). Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum bscarrol!!! I really dont know alot about these but someone here will have an answer for you shortly.
I found a missing reverse clad bicentennial quarter while going through a mint sewn bag. I was offered $1 by a local coin dealer, so I kept it until a few years ago. At that time one of the major error dealers' offer of $250 was exactly how much I was short on the asking price of an early Meiji silver yen I was interested in, so it was a no-brainer to sell.
I would suggest sending it to NGC www.ngccoin.com if you have an Ebay user name you can do that---or if you don't have the limit of 5 coins to send in to them then I would suggest finding a local dealer that will send it in for you---It will cost you around $25+ to get it graded and slabbed. These types of errors have been faked in the past so you will more than likely get a better price for it if it is slabbed. Speedy
