I pulled this Kansas quarter out of a mint bag and was trying to determine what type of error this is. It was a little hard to photograph but I think I may have finally gotten medicore images. Around Washington's neck area I guess and up into where his pony tail meets the back of his head their seems to be multiple little "pools" of missing detail. Seems to be a little one in Washingtons ear as well. I compared it with another nickel and it is definitly not normal. These areas are clear of any detail whatsoever. I have pics here: First shows the pools when the light catches them, the next is when they are shaded. The third obviously is the entire obverse of the quarter. Please tell me what you think! Thanks
It appears you have intentional die abrasion ("die polishing") and a number of shallow strike-through errors. They are unrelated.
How did you get such good pics of the strike thru areas. I have tried and tried and I can't see squat. BTW your bag and mine must have been related cause that looks exactly like one of the many I found.
Yea the struck through areas are a pain to get to photograph. The way I did it was to have a bright light really close to the quarter, with about three other lights to give some background. Then I stand on a chair looking down at the quarter and use my zoom on my digital camera. Works well for mine, my digi camera has a setting for if you are taking a picture of somthing really close to you which is represented by a flower, I always put that on if I am taking pics of coins. Alright that is about it, oh and thanks for the reply I had hoped that they would be die abrasions strike through errors. Oh and Morgan that is funny that are bags of quarters seem to be related they must have been "born" around the same time
I've gotten several quarters like that abd didn't think anything of it. Especially with the marks in front of his face like the one pictured above.
