I have a Kansas quarter with a bump on the hump or an extra hunp any one find one of these and does any one know what it might be worth? it came out of the philly mint wraped roll. along with a bunch of grease damaged and die scrathched or cracted ones. the bump looks like part of the hairy part of the buffalo.

GDJMSP thank you for your reply sorry for taking so long to get back to you. i don't have a digital camera so i got a friend to use theirs, took a couple of pic's the camera went dead. we tried to down load but did not have the charger to power the camera so I am going to have to wait till tomorrow to down load them and then post. i put it under our microscope and was able to get a better look at them it seems that the die was gouged out leaving a couple of arc like mark's that were then stamped into the coins. I am going to try and get a pic. through the microscope as well.

There are a number of sites on the internet that allow you to upload and store photos. You can post it at one of those sites, and then put a link to the picture in your posting, as long as the URL for the picture ends with a bmp, doc, gif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, pdf, png, psd, txt, or zip extension.

If nothing else works, try e-mailing the photo to yourself. Some programs will reduce the photo sizes by about 2/3s through the e-mail. I Just tryed it to make sure of what I was talking about and mine reduced a 153kb to 46kb. I don't know how much cropping you have done to the photo but you may want to try that too.

Well, my first guess would have been a die clash, but the "defect" doesn't line up right and I can't see any other evidence point to a die clash. In any case, I'd make sure to keep all finger prints OFF the coin. If they are there already DO NOT clean it.

Next, I'd contact coinworld.com or http://conecaonline.org/ You should be able to email them you pictures for inspection.

As popular as the buffalo has been on coins this year, your coin may be worth $100's specially is yours is the first found and professionally recognized. But even if its worth just $0.25 its a great fun find for your collection.

It looks like die damage of some sort. I can't tell what kind of die damage it is from here.

to all; thank you for your input. i have already sent one of these coins to coin world, and while i was at the long beach coin and stamp show i was directed to a fred wienberg one of the dealers in error coins at the show. i showed him the three coins that i took with me. the first was a buffalo quarter with a small dent in the exact spot were the error is located. the second quarter has only half of the error (missing the three spray like shapes emitting from the hump) and the third was the quarter in the picture above (post #9). he told me that he has seen these on ebay and that they may have sold for around ten bucks, and that it is a sizable die chip. they came strait from the mint in the mint wraped rolls. i always use gloves when i handle coins from the mint. there are no finger prints i am weary about cleaning any coins. i do not know what would be an appropriate cleaner to remove what ever debree the mint got on them with out destroying them. i bought five sets and all of the Philadelphia quarters were less than mint quality. you'd think that out of 5 rolls at least one or two would be better than an ms63. i have not recieved any word back yet from coin world they only got the coin a few days ago. would like to add the artical to this collection. as for the coment of the finger prints on the coin i dont understand what do you mean by that.

Congrats on your contacts. Please make sure to update us when you hear back from coinworld.

The ONLY difference between mint wrapped rolls and standard bank rolls is the paper wrapper. That's it. Mint wrapped rolls are not of higher quality, or even "first strike" (another misnomer).

There is NO guarenteed way to clean a coin without lowering its potential value.

Sounds like you already have the "finger prints" issue covered. I was simply saying to avoid getting any fingerprints on your coins as they will lower any potential value your coins may have.

    Good luck.
