Some of us collect ancient coins with themes in mind. The theme need not be the exclusive focus of the collection, but it receives special emphasis. I find the story of the Antioch mint under Justinian and all its varied mint marks fascinating, so a year ago I created a website about it:

Today I added an unusual year 16 follis to it with still another variety of mintmark. If you don't know the story of the change of the name of Antioch to Theoupolis you will find it interesting.

There is more about this coin on that educational web page and there is a link to it at the top.

    Great coin and terrific web-site...

Since I have been accumulating various Byzantine coins again---little by little--that easily accessible info will be quite valuable to me..

I believe I now how 10 examples including a recently purchased gold coin of Heraclius...and unboubtedly several more before this year is through..

Great website & coin, Warren. I didn't know there was that many mintmark differences just for him.

Very interesting mintmark. I was only familiar with the traditional THEUP.
