Aweek or so ago I placed a bid for 1 piece on a dutch auction on eBay for a 2004 Silver proof set of the state quarters. Tonight it ended at $16.03 + $5 s/i. This is the second set for my fledgling collection of silver proof state quarters. I hoped I'd be able to get it at a good price. From what I've seen $21 total seems OK.

WaA140,I am surprised that the 50 States Quarters are being issued in silver proofs.I thought that the proof $1/4 are clad ones.
Do you know if they are being issued as silver Uncs?

    Aidan.

Yes, the state quarters are being issued in 90% silver proofs in addition to the clad proofs.

WaA140, could you post the URL for the auction so we can take a look at it?

I sold the quarters from my 2003 and 2004 proofsets, that's about the price they went for...

I've noticed a lot of sets for sale from many of the years where the other coins were removed from the set and the quarters sold. I've wondered why? Just not that many people interested in the state quarters?

Just the opposite - there is a HUGE market for the SQ's. The mint even sold the quarters by themselves.

So, they buy the whole set and then keep the other coins and hope to recoup the cost by selling just the quarters? Hmm...
