here is the auction i won http://www.ebay.com/itm/221109870629?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 as you can tell the date on the coin is different then the listing so i have a choice between them at the same price 1903
Iv got till after work to decied Can some one explain why one is better thrn the other and if the price was good
Slightly more detail, attractive toning, & more age. Haven't even clicked on the link, so I've no idea what you paid.
1897 has a mintage of 10,869,264 1903 has a mintage of 19,500,755 Personally I`d go for 1897, I can see little differecne condition-wise, but it`s your choice!! Owen
Hey owen, good call with the mintage. I had some quarter mintages handy, but no dimes as I'm at work.
Oh, its a 1903-O? The 1903 has a mintage of 8,180,000 now then I was looking at the picture for the mint marks sorry!! Well spotted Tom!
The toning is nicer on the 1897 but the 1903-O seems to be a better buy since those O mintmarks are always more. Depends on what is important to you attractiveness versus rarity. I think that rarity is always better.
True, but the 1897-O is worth substantially MORE in every grade. Study those catalogs! Is there a Coin World pricing app for smartphones??
Check at numismedia.com. Click the collector's link and navigate to what coin you want the value for. I think it would be good to check what the value is of a coin before bidding so you don't overbid. Value is often relative but I would by the 1903-O since the mintage is lower and New Orleans minted coins along with Carson City seem like they always cost more.
