Hello all! I usually hang out in the coin sections, but decided to come here today as I just started my own paper money collection. So far I've found these - No rarities or fancy serial numbers here, but still a collection. :)

Good start. If you want a low cost way to get some absolutely beautiful notes may I recommend branching out into foreign paper. A heck of a lot cheaper and in my opinion, more satisfying.

I personally stopped caring about american paper when I realized that all notes for the past 80 years or so look basically the same; any older ones are insanely expensive.

everybody’s got their own interests though

Welcome to the world of paper. I collect both, coins and currency, and have limits myself to collecting just US one dollar notes, and even at that, it gets expensive. I'm still short about 6 or 7 notes to having a complete set of examples (I exclude all of the different National Currency, as there are just too many for me to afford.)

That is certainly a better start than the one I had. If you're into foreign paper money, the Canadian Bilingual Series of 1937 is a great place to start. However, if you find yourself more drawn towards American paper money, I'd suggest looking for either a 1923 $1 Silver Certificate or 1914 $5 Federal Reserve Note.

When I was in the military back in the early 60's a friend knew I collected. He worked part time at a gas station. He called me and said he got a $20 Gold Certificate. He would hold it for me. I went right there. But, the station owner got there first and collected the cash for the daily deposit. Dang.
