Looks pretty clean to me--paid 69 prices, and could be a '70. Doesn't matter, as I like them 'minty fresh' as well as slabbed.
I wouldn't worry to much about it being a 70. My personal opinion is that if all of the 70's out there were resubmitted, half would come back 69 and you could keep playing that game over and over with mixed results. It all depends on how the grader feels that day. Nice coin though!
Thanks!! Can I tell the difference? No way. Without a microscope it would be hard for anyone to tell the difference. I like nice proofs, and this one was just fine for me.
Agreed. However, I have seen 69s and 70s side by side, and I could not tell the difference, with my loupe. When it gets this high in grade, it is almost a judgement call. I've owned 69 and 70 grades of the same coin, and they would appear identical to most folks.
I have studied this coin extensively and this is the only flaw I can find. If that hit was not there, it would be an MS70. Having said that, the TPG graders do not have enough time to examine each coin to make a conclusive determination of MS70.
Gorgeous coin, Paul. That is one of my next purchases. That flaw is minuscule. Does not affect the beauty of the coin.
It is a TPG designation, not a normal one, as a 70 is theoretically perfect. The human eye would miss microscopic defects, even under magnification.
