Just got the '05 Maple Leaf today in the mail. I am unsure how to store it. Should I remove it from its original rcm packaging and place it in a coin holder or should I leave it sealed? David
It really depends on what you like. Personally, I like Airtites. Nice storage, and easy to view. However, the original case should be kept for any time that you wish to resell the coin. Original packages usually bring a little more money.
The packaging is a heavyweight plastic packaged in a way like the mint sets are. I haven't been able to find any airtites online. I have seem some but the pictures aren't that clear. Do coins rattle in airtites? If they are held in place by something, does that damage the coins rims? David
http://www.air-tites.com/index.html They cause no damage at all. One point to remember is to use some canned air to blow out any dust before inserting the coin.
Thanks for that link. What is the difference between a direct fit holder and one that has a ring? Also I am not seeing any airtites for the maple leaf yet. Still looking... David
If it is the 1 ounce silver Maple Leaf it is model 3982 (30mm) Not a lot of difference between the direct fit and ring except the obvious. I prefer the rings as they save the edge from spinning within the holder. Be sure to use gloves when inserting the coin.
From what I can tell, the maple leaf is 38mm and an IKE dollar is 38.1mm. Looking at the two coins, the maple leaf seems a little thicker than the IKE. Would this make any difference in what holder I get? David
38mm? Is it the $5 Maple Leaf? If so, the model number is 3998/Model I They are made so the coin will fit. Don't worry about the thickness. Use the ring though for this coin.
Albums of course, or you can use standard 2x2 pages and create your own album. The possibilities are really only limited by the imagination. The greatest part about our hobby is the ability to make it personal.
