I just purchased a PCGS G-06 1900 Lafayette dollar off eBay. I am so happy. I've always desired one, and finally own it! Can't wait for it to arrive. Below are the auction photos. What do you think?[IMG]

That's a neat coin. I didn't realize any circulated to that extent. Maybe it was someone's lucky pocket piece?

    Isaiah,

Really don't know what a good deal on one of those would be but will say this.

Not being real big on commemoratives that is one that I would like to own. Love the reverse.

great feeling when you have a coin coming

#1 Isn't that a great feeling when you have a coin coming in the mail. Congratulations on the acquisition.

#2 It is good that you bought it certified. I bought a raw Lafayette a bunch of years ago & later I learned that there were some deceiving counterfeits. ANACS certified mine & it is in one of their small white holders today.

    Very best regards,

I like early Commems. The Lafayette Dollar stands alone as the only Silver Dollar in the early US Commems. It is also the first US coin on which Washington appears.

Below is a pic of my only example of this cool coin. Mine may grade AG-3. I'm sure mine was a pocket piece for someone for MANY years. (I'll look around and see if I have a pic of the reverse somewhere.)

I have always loved the Lafayette Dollar and really want one. They are so cool, but they are out of my price range at the moment. I'll get one someday. Congrats!!!

    Lafayette was French.

    From the US Constitution:

It's always been my favorite commemorative coin, and I'm so glad to have found a nice one at a great price.

No President predated that clause because there was no US President's before the Constitution was adopted.

Yes... HE DID. Think about it more and then tell me why he would have qualified...and was actually asked to run...

As previously mentioned, it's always smart to buy this one properly certified. Fakes abound, especially on eBay. A Chinese seller keeps popping up with one in a fake PCGS holder, recently it was taken down again after heavy reporting and messages to PCGS.

Arthur St. Clair was the 9th President of the Continental Congress under the Articles of Confederation and he was born in Scotland. Ironically, he was the President of the Continental Congress when the Constitution was ratified. As we know, the Constitution contains verbiage that would preclude St. Clair from serving as the President of the United States.

So I am assuming that Lafayette was asked prior to the adoption of the Constitution. Let us know Ruben.

I would say you need to think about it. There are 2 ways to qualify " a natural born citizen," - which he was not.

" or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution," - And again which he was not.

Lafayette never became a US citizen. In 2002 he was made an honorary citizen by Congress, but that's it. So there is no way he could have ever been President.
