For the longest time I have been wanting to have a set of old-style pre-1995 US bills. The ones with the small portrait. I've had a 5 and 10, as well as half a dozen 2s, but could not find a 20, 50, or 100.

I went to my dump bank to dump about $350 in halves and asked the teller. She went through about six stacks each of bills and pulled out a 20, 50, and 100!!

The 100 looks like it was heated and wrapped in a tube.. Nothing sitting under a heavy book for a few years won't fix. IT is dated 1993
The 50 has a deep fold, almost look like an in-paper tear, dated 1990
The 20 looks pretty good too. Dated 1993

I'm happy today! Maybe I should have asked if they had ant $500s.. But I don't think I had $500 on hand to get one

  3. Nice! :thumb: I'm always on the lookout for old style bills. And you can't go wrong for face value.

chances of you finding a $500 bill at a bank are pretty slim. banks are supposed to send them to the federal reserve to be destroyed. even if a teller was not into money they would know a $500 is not common. i worked at a bank for many years and we only had a couple of them come in. i always made sure the person who was bringing them in knew that they are worth way more than that. they were both elderly customers.

You mean the tellers can't keep them?

    That sucks horribly :(

well it depends on the bank. yes a teller could possibly hold it in their till. Then they could exchange for it. but once again they pop up once in a blue moon
