Are these going to be worth buying if a person already has the regular or silver proof sets? Plus do we know what the mintage is on just the bicentennial cent set? Im really debating whether or not to pick up a couple of these sets.

11-30-09 ship date.........I wonder how many are returns. I sent back 20 proof sets due to QC issues (spots).

I ordered ten sets yesterday just because I believe after the initial drop in price they will begin to slowly rise in value. I think it is widely believed that the most collected coins in numismatics are pennies. The values will slowly creep up as new collectors seek out the proofs of these popular coins. I have a total of 20 sets at his point and I will just stash them away until my yet to exist grandchildren find them in my trash strewn hovel after I’m gone and sell them at a ridiculously low amount so they can buy energy drinks. That’s my plan anyway. Hey, for 7.95 a set how wrong can I go? :mouth:

    Howdy,

According to Numismatic News, they'll be a different composition - 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc alloy first used in 1909 and not the copper coated zinc alloy used 'for regularly circulating 2009 cents.'

What this doesn't say is what the other proofs are made of.

My impression is that this composition will be the same in the regular proof sets as well.

So far all of the proof 2009 cents are the same composition 95% copper 5% tin & zinc. Same as the 1909 composition.

We think it's confusing now re. the different 2009 cent compositions. Imagine what it will be like 5 or even 10 years from now. 95% copper scams sure to come. I don't even want to think about trying to prove a SNAD item to ebay based on the weight of the coin.

buy all you want/need now, you won't need ebay in 5-10 years on nor deal with that issue, if eBay/PayPal will even exist at that time, let alone deal with such issues, sellers, buyers, complaints... with their track record of changing policy, 5-10 years on will be an entirely other beast to deal with.

I got the proof set as part of the regular proof set and I think also the silver proof set. I don't want to pay the Mint more money for something I already have. The Mint is putting out way too many products!!! That's just my opinion of course. :)

It seems to me that a little knowledge goes a long way. I beleive the UNC from the mint sets will be a satin finish which will differentiate them from the UNC in rolls.

Based on what? Are you referring to the 4 piece Bicentennial Set only for that mintage figure, the 5 piece Coin and Chronicles Set only or both total for that figure? You give a rather exact number in your prediction, whether in exact sales or actual mintage... either way it will take quite some time to know the exact number to test your prediction, by which time they will only be on the secondary market and or in TPG slabs.

Low for such a common coin as a penny I'd say. Of course I though the same thing about the 1996-W Rosies too. :mouth:

my prediction for lincoln proof set is 2,500,000 set.

    clad proof set - 1,550,000
    silver proof set - 800,000
    chronicle set - 50,000
    lincoln proof set - 100,000
    total 2,500,000

i would consider chronicle set differ from other three sets. because there is a silver dollar within. the other three sets are of the same case and background design. but the lincoln 4 pc proof set added box and c.o.a. it is up to you guys to determine how you figure the mintage. i would add all four. cause there are all proof lincoln cent.

Thanks elaine. I feel that the Proof versions in the 4 and 5 pcs sets of these Cents will significantly contribute to the design's appeal for collectors whereas the UNC versions have been rather flat and lack any dynamic appeal in their narrative scenes.

I ordered Five sets $8.94 each with shipping. I know the ordering started about a week ago. When did the US Mint first come out with this four piece cent proofs would be issued? I ordered 20 proof sets about four weeks ago and didn't hear about them then.

    Part two:
I also was thinking about buying the 2009 MINT SETS when they come out in the Fall, but if the US Mint starts selling unc rolls of the 95% copper. I see nothing on the product schedule for the copper cents
, but don''t remember seeeing the four cent proofs.
