It is my custom to photograph every coin of interest in a new purchase. Often, features appear in the picture that I hadn't notice in the flesh. This 1912-D looks resurrected from a terrestrial slumber at some point, or maybe it did time in Davy Jones' locker? Or did it venture too close to an uncovered skillet frying up a juicy serving of eggs and bacon? Splattered generously with carbon spots like little barnacles, the photo alludes to a potential RPM. (FYI, my superior amateur photographic skills aside, the general impression throughout the whole coin is corrosive ED apart from the "skin tags".) I haven't seen any record online of such a variant for this date. If so, it figures my very first discovery coin would be on a specimen of "acquired taste"! Nicer grade too! Anyone else see it?
