Lovely little coin! Noble Numismatics is one of my favorite secret weapons -- but now you've let the cat out of the bag... I've gotten some nice Greek & Roman Provincials from them in recent years, they tend to have just what I'm looking for, but often without the crowd who usually outbid me for them. Having already spent a lot at other recent auctions, though, I skipped the present sale, though there were several I wanted (including yours!). One of my all-time favorite coins came from Noble Numismatics (for a long time before these became common, due to a recent hoard, this was one of the only known specimens, and certainly the best-known; now it is special mainly for its place in 19th-20th cent. numismatic history): Satraps of Caria, Hidrieus AR Tetradrachm (23mm, 14.74g, 12h). Halikarnassos, c. 351-344 BCE. Apollo / Zeus holding labrys & spear. [Photo by CNG, 2011] This coin = Whittall Collection (Sotheby's, 1884, Lot 1113) = Sir Hermann Weber 6604 = Clarence S. Bement (Naville VII, 1924, Lot 1520) = SNG Lockett 2909 (Glendining part XII, 1961, 2384) = SNG von Aulock 8046, and some others. One nice thing: the coins from Noble almost always look better than their photos! That's not their photo above. Theirs below (I was nicely surprised):
Thanks all! I know their grading is super strict. Morton & Eden had a fantastic Auction couple months ago/ the coins ended up hammering for many X estimate. One coin a Karia AV 1/12 Daric went 10 X est. I found some of my best wins came from Roma.
