1850 Lg Cent with Peeling and Lamination, new to the collecting game and don't really know what to do with error coins.
Wait... you just got it back from PCGS... but it's not in plastic... Are these pics from *before* you submitted it... or did you crack it out already...? Help me out here...
sometimes I wonder if there is a standard with PCGS. Sometimes they encapsulate coins like tat and sometimes they send it back in a "body bag". I am wondering if it's the graders discretion? Anyone out there know why sometimes this happens?
I dont have a clue other than to say I LOVE that large cent!!! Too bad it didnt slab...weird....maybe you needed to submit it as an error coin instead of just straight grade....
It was not submitted under the PCGS Mint Error tier, (notice the label doesn't say "mint error" at the top) That's why it was a 'no grade' under the normal coin submission tier.
Too many rules, tiers and scams from these grading companies. The coin should be attributed no matter how it is sent in.
Always kind of baffled me - you pretty much have to know what you have before you submit it. Next thing will be that you will be able to request the grade you want - just a matter of how much it'll cost.
The PCGS fee to attribute / grade this coin is $65, whereas the fee to just grade it would be $35 without attributing the lamination. I think the submitter should have the choice to submit it for grading without the attribution in order to save the money.
I used my 8 “free” grades for my membership to PCGS, should have read things more carefully...live and learn I guess!
Awesome coin! I’m very sorry about the body bag. Do you collect errors specifically, or was this more an accidental find?
Accidental, was from an estate sale not really up to speed on error coins, still trying to get the basics down.
