I thought I had no chance....but to my urrwe surprise won it AV 1/4 Dukat ND 1750 Swiss Cantons/ Basel obv. Basilisk rev. Value/ Basil Basel made some of the most magnificent coinage, esp. from 1600-1770
Thanks! I was really HAPPY to find that good news this morning! Basel in 1741 issued a commerative set of coins in silver/gold. In gold/ they struck from 1/4 to massive 30 Dukaten(105g.) I seen a FDC example in Sincona Auction/ Basilisk/Basel City Scene.....it was a dream coin/ dream price
You never know. I recall a story from a dealer where he placed "lowball bids", (some might recognize the phrase), on a large auction of French piedforts, never dreaming he would win any. He opened up his mailbox a month later and had dozens. He said evidently the sale was too many at a time, and he won tons of them, but has never again seen them go so cheaply. So, sometimes it is irritating getting overbid, but to paraphrase another saying, "you can only win if you bid".
Wish I would take my own advice more. I was going to bid on a dichalkon a couple of weeks ago, its better than my example, but assumed it would go for too much. It went for opening bid.
