today i went to my local bank and picked up 5 rolls of nickels...... i allmostt never roll search for nickels but then i relised to myself. its porb the best chance of geting something old out of the 5 rolls of nickles i got 1 1940 10 1964 3 1961 1 1970 s i really dont know whats a good turn out for the amount of nickels i traded in.... what do you guys usally get when you trade in 5$ worth of nickels?
I save all the 1964 nickels i come across. Sure they are common, but i save all 64 and older nickels. I usually find a lot from the 50's in circulation, but once in a while get one from the 40's. Cents and nickels are the best way to find old stuff. Wheats are common and jeffersons have looked the same since '38 so not many check the dates on them
to tell you the truth I would rather 2007 bu rolls. The mint no longer offers business strike nickels in mint set or in rolls.
i am saving the 1965 and older nickels i find because since everyone is looking for the 1959 and older, in a few years they will be looking for those in the 1960's, and i will have lots of them. the average pre 1960 for nickels is 1 in every 2 rolls. nice finds! i like doing nickels because people don't know which nickels are old. with the cents, people see the wheat back and keep it. in nickels, a 1940 looks the same as a 1995.
