Ive been digging through some loose change and I'm just curious if any of these are in any way special or, dare I say it, rare. I'm an extreme novice so feel free to explain this stuff to me! Thanks P.S. I apologize for the camera quality.
First, welcome to the neighborhood @JKatz ! Did you try using the "Upload a File" at the bottom of each post? Chris
You can look it up online. Offhand I would say it's worth a .25-.50 cents. If it has been cleaned, and it has that look, then less. I would keep it. You are not getting rich, but all the others are face value. The 1957 nickel doesn't do anything for me, but some people save those.
Hey @JKatz, novice collector here. Super easy places to start are the following: -If you like the look of a coin keep it. Even if they're worth nothing you can always spend it later and it helps you start to identify things you like and want to expand on. -Learn the silver coin dates they are worth much more than clad. (dime, quarter, half dollar are all 90% silver 1964 and earlier) Kennedy half dollars are 40% silver from 1965-1969. -Nickels are silver from 1942-1945 (they will have big mint mark on back and are obvious) From there research old american coins and see what interests you then just continue. HUGE PIECE OF ADVICE: this has been passed to me by many other numismatists. Don't buy damaged coins for premium prices. They are hard to sell and never worth even half the value of an undamaged unless they are very very rare. I have bought a few damaged coins because I got them dirt cheap and I liked the look/price. Finally, have fun! ha
1970 Kennedy halves are 40% silver too. A key date in the Kennedy series only issued in 1970 Mint Sets, very rare to find them in the wild but I've found a few. @JKatz Welcome and Happy Hunting!
