I sold it on ebay in a no reserve auction the other day and was very surprised at the closing bid. How much would you be willing to pay for this coin (without looking to see what it sold for) and how would you rate the toning? (on a scale of 1 to 10). Please note that it is not available for purchase as it has already been sold.
CCE bid is $53 so it should stay above that number (it is what wholesale dealers are pledged to buy them for if offered) and if the toning is attractive to someone maybe as much as $100, but if it was mine and I got more than $60 I would pleased with it. If I got more than $100 I would be very surprised. I'd call the toning a 6 or so, slightly above average.
Id pay around 100 to 125 for the coin. Maybe I should have been watching cause I am guessing it sold cheap but I could be wrong.
Nice Morgan!! I would have paid $60-75 depending how badly I wanted the coin, but, I'm not the least bit impressed by toning so that doesnt do anything for me.
Thanks for the comments, here's a link to the ended auction. If it was a higher grade I would have kept it as this is one of my favorite toning patterns for morgans. I was pretty surprised by the sale price...I regularly see similarly toned morgans sell for well over $100. Not to mention a few days before I sold a similarly toned MS64 morgan for $115...oh well. You win some you lose some, especially on ebay. :mouth:
No offense intended - but I like a light golden toning, and prefer it to cover the coin. So the toning on this coin would not cause me pay more. Then again if I had it in hand I might have a different opinion. I am finding it hard in some cases to determine on ebay what a coin will really look like - in hand that is. And I hate paying $10 to hold a coin. Just my opinion!
None taken, everyone has their likes and dislikes and preferences as to toning (or lack of toning). I strive to take images that represent exactly what my coins look like in hand...this one looks exactly like it does in hand.
hmm...maybe the weak economy has something to do with it?? though, we did just get our checks. hmmmmmm
I know I'm on the low end, but I wouldn't pay more than 35-40 dollars for it. It books higher, but it's a common date and condition you can find all day. Toning is nice, but I don't pay extra for oxidation. Guy~
I'm a toned coin hater so I just wouldn't even bid on that coin. Hate to say this but if someone gave me that coin I think I dip it to get rid of the toning. I know that would make toned coin lovers want to hang me but I just don't like toning on coins.
