I just bought this 1934 yellow seal $10.00 silver certificate on ebay. What is the deferance in the seals? this is my first yellow seal and have no idea what the different seals mean. and what is the bill worth. I payed $30.00 for it. did I make a good buy or not. I figured it will go good in one of my collections.

The yellow seal that you have was used during World War II in North Africa. In case the Axis troops siezed a large amount of these notes, the US Gov't could make the notes worthless. Similar notes were used in Hawaii, but those had brown seals and HAWAII overprints. However, the North Africa notes were, for all intents and purposes, normal silver certificates, and Hawaii notes, normal silver certs and FRNs. These were only used for WWII. The normal seal colorings and meanings were:

    Yellow Seal
Gold Cerificates: directly backed up by gold bullion in the Treasury. Gold backing rescinded in 1933 after the gold recall.

    Blue Seal
Silver Ceritficates: directly backed up by silver bullion in the Treasury. Silver backing rescinded in 1968

    Red Seal
United States Notes: Currency directly issued by the Treasury. A fixed value of notes remained "in circulation" form 1862 to 1994, when the law was rescinded. No bullion backing.

    Green Seal
Federal Reserve Notes: issued by the Federal Reserve System. Backed up by bonds deposited in the name of the System at the Treasury. The only currently printed currency type.

    Brown Seal
Federal Reserve Bank Notes/National Bank Notes: distributed by individual banks/FRBs. Backed up by bonds deposited in the name of the National Banks or FRBs. Small Size FRBNs issued during the Depression as an emergency measure. Bond type recalled in 1935.

    I'd say 30$ is a good buy.
I sold mine for 34$ - and it was in slightly worse condition :D

I would say good buy! besides you bought it, you thought the price was good, and you liked the note ... in the end... that is really all that matters!
