Last week, I bought a guy's coin collection that was listed For Sale on Craigslist for $500 plus $30 shipping. It just came today. I have just taken an inventory on the collection. Below is the list. It includes, pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and various Dollar coins (and most came in nice coin folders/books).

In terms of silver value, there were 11 War Nickels, 47 Mercs, 48 Roosies, 37 Wash, and 5 Ikes. Nearly 16 ounces of Silver according to my calculation.) I know that you can't see the condition of each coin but, in general, how do you think I did compared to the price I paid?

BTW, if there's a coin that you want to see a picture of, let me know and I'll post it.

You've got a little over $400 worth of silver given current premiums on junk silver. Not sure what the value of all the non-silver items are combined, but if it's $100-$125, you did OK. If its 150+ I think you did very well.

I'm sure the value of the pennies is very dependent on their condition.

Is the 1936-S dime low mintage? They made nine million of them.

That sounds like a good deal. Get into these things, they're fun. Show us some, we'll help you.

IMO, condition of the coins you bought is what will tell if you got a good deal or not.

What I meant was that was the lowest mintage Mercury Dime that came with the collection. All the rest of them were higher than 9 million.
Any particular one you want to see?

Are you sure the 73 S, 74 S, and 76 S dollars are silver? Without those three I come up with 13.8 oz of silver. If they are silver then you have 14.8 oz. Even at full spot value (Which you won't get normally) you have $343 in silver. I think you have probably overpaid unless the IHC's are better grade.

Yes they are silver and yes, you are correct. Almost 15 ozs...not 16 ozs. Thanks Conder.

You may have overpaid somewhat, but check those coins for die varieties...if you find some high-value ones, that could certainly make up for it.

You got two (2) silver quarter rolls and two (2) silver dime rolls. Those alone cover your costs based on what you can get on eBay today. If any of the coins grade higher than G04, I think you did very well...congrats!! :high5:

Think you misread. He got almost 2 dime rolls and just over 3/4 of a quarter roll.

    Dang! ...you're right! :thumb:

I get to thinking about Dollar and Half rolls and get confused. :grandpa:

Still, without seeing the coins, sounds like a decent deal.

    I miscounted. I got 37 Washington Quarters with the collection...not 32. Therefore, I calculated 15.764 ozs of silver...at $23.20/oz, it's $365 in silver.

Just figuring in the rest at face value you paid $530 for just over $400 in coins that were worth the bother to a collector to collect and put into folders. You did OK. To see how OK, let's start at the top, let's see that Flying Eagle.

    I'll get a pic up when I get home tonight...but don't get your hopes up...it's a G4 at best.

I mean all the IHC and silver and the 1932 S and D quarters (low mintage) really add up! the quarters at VG08 cleaned, are worth quite a bit still.

    I didn't get the 32D & S with this collection.

Dont forget, those Dansco books arent cheap, they are worth something too. Plus its a collection, not a wheat lot on ebay with 43 - 1956Ds in 3 different grades.

More importantly Tabor, are you happy with it?

Also, I personally would like to see the 09-19 cents.
