i have just paid for the 2006 silver proof set on and was wondering if there has been any reported errors in the coins for example die cracks ect. also i have never bought or for that fact even seen a proof coin besides seeing pictures online i was wonder how on a scale of 1-10 this proof set rates as of the following catigories

    1. craftmenship( how well the strike of the coin is)
2.purity ( how shiney or reflectant the silver is)
    3. investment ( how good of a investment is this set)
4 timeing ( how long it takes for the mint to deliver this proof set)

lastly i was wondering if the pennie in this proof set is pure copper or the zinc with a coating of copper and is the nickle in this set silver or regular circulating compistion

any info you have would GREATLY be appericaited

    thanks for looking!! bob

I think he means the silver set with the state quarters in them, not the 20th anniversary set.

Sorry CC51, I have ASE's on the brain. I have not seen any threads that deal with errors on the 2006 Silver Proof Sets.

    Enjoy your coins!!!

8 this series is ok ..wait until you get the 07 set. These quarters are some of the finest. The detail is amazing on the falcon and the trains on the Utah quarter. I rate it a 10 fer sure.

2.purity ( how shiney or reflectant the silver is)
    9.5 very shiney

    3. investment ( how good of a investment is this set)
It's not an investment as in it won't make you rich but you will be able to sell it for more than you paid for it. So about a 4 on the investment scale.

4 timeing ( how long it takes for the mint to deliver this proof set)
    Score 8 ...it takes about 7 - 10 days.

1 & 2 - it's the same for all Proof sets. The only thing that will make a difference is if you get lucky and acquire a set that just happened to be struck by a fresh pair of dies. As for number 3, it all dpends on luck really. Some sets go up in price and others actually go down in price. You keep asking about coins as investments - as a general rule, coins are not good investments.

The cent is made of the same metal as the cents you spend every day, zinc plated with copper. All nickels are made of the same metals. The only exceptions were those issued in '42, '43, '44 & '45 - those had 35% silver.
