Okay it is 0042 in the morning and I've read everything I think so I'll tell something I did on a whim. There were a couple posts recently about the 1976 Quarter, I read them and didn't think too much about it and moved on. I'm not planning on purchasing any Buffalo Nickels now, getting close to vacation time. So I came up with an idea I could use a complete set of the '76 Quarters for. I purchased four; P and D BU, and the clad and silver proofs. I got all four for > than 8. but < 9 with S & H. Will they ever be worth more than what I paid for them? Doubtful, some may say I even paid too much, and they may be right. If I did pay too much it's maybe 2 or 3 bucks. But this is a really attractive coin, I'm sure glad I got them, and just a little tidbit that I hope my sons find interesting some day. I don't think coins always have to be rare or costly to be interesting. Their beauty, what they represent in our history can also make them interesting. No matter what the mintage was it is still a very special quarter representing an important part of our history that will never reoccur. Plus in '76 there was this redhead I was dating and............
I'm encouraged by your post! As a new collector, I sometimes feel like I'm doing the wrong thing if I purchase a non-key date or other less valuable coins. But like you, I'm drawn to some coins for what they represent, the history that occured when they were minted, such as a national event, or just some period of time in my own personal history....or just because I like them! In regards to the '76 quarters, so much history is represented in that coin! The majority of us reading this post will not be here for our country's tri-centennial, but we were blessed to have been here for the bi-centennial. What a great way to show our participation in that historical event to our children and grandchildren, with perhaps modest but historically profound coins we've saved for them! I have a roll of circulated '76 quarters, now you've motivated me to find a nice clad and silver proof set for my own! :high5:
That is what its all about! Collect what you like without any regard to what anyone else thinks. The problem comes in when one tries to "invest" in coins. Congrats!
Thanks to both of you. That's funny you mention about the roll. I have a roll I've been working on for years and I think it is about 14 that I have. The funniest part is I have gotten the majority of these on cruise ships getting change for the laundry.
i dont know how i have started to become the GD of the forum but here we go again. Lets try a different approach Anytime ur buying something ur investing - no 2 ways about that now the question to ask is what are u investing in? the coin value going up? your happiness? your collecting pleasure? celebrating a milestone etc no one pays money for nothing so make sure that u get enough in return and down the road dnt change ur reason for buying the coin also always remember that for things that are easily available dont overpay no one buys tide for 20 bucks if walmart is selling it for 10 do they? if any time the emotions with coins turns negative stop take a breather understand ur motivation before jumping back in and i am being very serious when i say everyone is an expert when it comes to buying coz they are voting with their money but when it comes time to sell manage ur expectations coz the next person might not share your reason for buying. Have a lot of fun you only live once
Spock there are people out there that are "Coin Doctors" that doctor-up coins, but you are a doctor of coin collectors. Thanks to you I now can see my way.
