I picked up these two Morgans along with a Trade Dollar and some BU War Nickels at the coin shop today. The 1888 Has some really cool die cracks on it. Comments and grade opinions are always welcome. Sorry, my photo skills are not up to par.

Nice piece ! Personally, I like the blast white.

Well, I checked my Van Allen / Mallis (VAM) 4th edition to see if you might have a valuable VAM variety. The only illustration they have of a reverse die crack is VAM-4.

Their description doesn't mention the crack, but the picture sure shows... and the VAM-4 picture is the only one with a crack.

    Check the following:

    • do you see any doubling of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ? Ya gotta look close... I can't tell from the posted pic.
    • do you see any doubling of the letters in the top inside of "NE" "OL" or "AR" in ONE DOLLAR ?
    • do you see any doubling of the eagle's right wing, IN GOD WE TRUST, upper part of left wreath, or lower outside of right wreath ?
If so, you've picked up a VAM-4, which carries a "collector's interest rating" of I-3 (5 is max) and a "rarity rating" of R-4 (8 is max).

Looks MS62 or so, Morgans are RIFE with Die clashes, Die cracks, RPM`s, RPD`s, Overdates and OverMint Marks. I suggest going to vamlink. com, and joining the SSDC, Society of Silver Dollar Collectors

This particular coin is not one of the recognized VAMs for the 1888, just a neat late die state coin.
