I went to 5 different banks today. Out of the 5, 3 would not sell me rolls of ANYTHING because I didnt have an account with them (Im 18 and have $57 to my name.) The other two would let me buy rolls from them without an account, but NONE of them had any rolls of halfes, which is what I really wanted to collect. Today has been a disapointing day. The two banks that were willing to sell me rolls said they dont order rolls. Has anyone ever been in a situation like this? Did you find a bank that carried what you needed? I feel like I lost my collecting mojo today. EDIT: Its funny that my small town bank thats been around for many years is willing to help me but the banks built in the last ten years wont. I have to make an account with them.
Same thing where I live. Try dumping a large quantity of coins. A lot of places are charging a fee now for that.
Ya I was told that by the banks that didnt want to do anything for me that I could use there machine but they would charge me 10 cents out of every dollar. I was trying to cash in $40 worth of quarters to buy 4 rolls of halfes but not a single bank had one roll of halfes. I might have to drop my halfes collection if no bank has them.
Banks aren't the only avenue, try asking local gas stations or anyone with a cash register. You never know what someone has sitting in their drawer or back room. Rejection should further motivate you to keep tryin! The fun of collecting is all in the hunt and determination. Personally I hate waiting in lines at a bank for little to no return on my time. Branch out and get creative. Good Luck!
Im going to take that advice and follow it. Tomorrow I will go to different places and ask if they have halfes.
How would I go about asking for Halfes at Walmart? ask a cashier, customer service? Im still new to all this lol
well thanks for the tip, maybe my goal to fill my Kennedy halfes folder isnt completely lost, I just hope Walmart or any of my other stores have halfes
You can ask the tellers at the banks for their incomplete rolls of "odd ball" coins like Ikes, Halves, Pres dollars.
I ask at a grocery store down the street if they have any half dollars all the time, and the other day one of the ladies I've asked a couple times waved me over and asked if I wanted some 'gold dollar coins'. Even though I didn't necessarily want them I took what she had off her hands in hopes that she will do it again with other 'weird' coins that comes through!

well darn, looks like I'm gonna have to put my collection of halves on hold for awhile until I can get a job and open up a bank account. I'll still ask around for rolls.
