Hi all - I'm hoping (a forlorn hope I fear) that someone can respond with a way to remove milk spots from silver coins (Maple Leafs in my case). I've read through older threads about this, so I'm looking to see if anyone has had any luck with this problem at this point. As these are just bullion coins, I'm not afraid of dips, etc. as long as I can rid the coins of the spots. Jewelry Cloth helps, but partially. Thanks! I've tried coin dips on some proof silver with bad milkspots , it helped to remove some or lessen there severity but they came back within a few months . I fear the only way to remove them would be to dip them so long as to ruin the proof quality as you'd have to remove the top layer of silver . I hope someone has a way but I really doubt it .
Have you tried the hot water in a glass bowl with baking soda with a piece of albumin foil that has been rubbed with sand paper. Place the coin just touching the foil. The tarnish will go away. Now as to the spots, I have not done. Try one that you will not plan to keep and see how it goes. Good luck. This has worked on Proofs and UNC coins with spots and tarnish. It doesn't work on copper or clad c:thumbins
Do American Eagles have this problem? The only coin that has a milk spot in my collection is a Canadian Maple. I want to pick up more maples because of the lower premiums and higher purity to the eagle.
Yes - american silver eagles get milk spots. As far as I know there is not a permanent way to get rid of them.
