The blank that the coin was minted from had an existing defect. Often occurs when the metals, copper, zinc & tin in this case, aren’t properly mixed. This was WWII and some people speculate bronze shell casings were in the mix. Happened a lot with the US 5 cent coins,1942-45 too. I’ll post some of my examples Nice find!
