Here is the bill for the dime. As you can see, it is gaining massive support since his death. We should not stand by and allow another coin to be permanently emblazed with any image. If you believe that Reagan needs to be honored, push for a commemorative coin.

No H.R. number for the $10 bill yet.

ALERT: As you've heard by now, the greatest president of the modern era has passed on to be with his Lord. As a tribute to his legacy, we believe it's finally time to replace President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's image on the dime with Ronald Reagan's.

According to WorldNetDaily.com, a group of over 80 members of Congress have co-sponsored a bill to put The Gipper's face on the coin.

Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) introduced the bill, the "Ronald Reagan Dime Act" (HR 3633), last year during the controversy over the airing of the leftist mini-series "The Reagans" on television.

"It is particularly fitting to honor the Freedom President on this particular piece of coinage," Souder stated. "The faces on all coinage have changed and will continue to change. Were that not the case, FDR would not be on the dime, and Eisenhower would still be on the dollar coin. When the dime is again changed - as all other coins will be someday - it is my belief that Ronald Reagan's profile should be on it."

"FDR believed the federal government should spend your dimes. Ronald Reagan believed the people should spend their own dimes. I think it's clear that the dimes in your pocket should bear Ronald Reagan's image," co-sponsor Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA) said.

TAKE ACTION: The Ronald Reagan Dime Act currently has 88 cosponsors - including Speaker Dennis Hastert, Majority Leader Tom DeLay, Majority Whip Roy Blunt, and many committee chairmen. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Financial Services.

It's time to get the bill to the House floor for a full vote. Click "Go!" above NOW to urge your Representative to support HR 3633, the "Ronald Reagan Dime Act".

NOTE: Franklin D. Roosevelt's image was placed on the dime in 1946, just after he died. Historically, images on coins are supposed to be on for no more than 25 years; FDR's has now been on for nearly 60 years.

President Reagan was truly the greatest president of the modern era. It's only fitting to honor his memory in this way -- and it's only the beginning. Be sure to Click Below to forward this Alert to everyone you know who wants to see this giant of a man on all of our dimes. Thank you!

I think the matter has been settled as to whether we are going to have real people on our money. The line should be drawn at not having a living person on a coin.

I don't have a problem with a Reagan dime. As long it looks good! Call your Congressman and tell them to hire a real sculpter to make the Reagan Dime look like Reagan!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(

He's got an airport. Given him a commem, and that's it. In general I supported Reagan but he is no saint. How soon we forget massive deficits and Iran - Contra.

And why is everyone so eager to screw Alexander Hamilton??

Unfortunately, I think we may be fighting a losing battle here. In passing, Ronald Reagan seems to have even garnered support and admiration from staunch democrats who criticized him all of his life. I believe public sentiment may be very much for the passing of this bill.

Personally, I believe that the obverse of our coinage should represent the values for which this country was founded - liberty, freedom, etc. - not particular individuals who may or may not have helped us to acheive our national goals. I am not oppossed to say a half dollar series commemorating presidents, but the majority of our coinage and bills - not how I would have it.

At least there is a silver lining if you can call it that - if this does pass it too will help stimulate interest in coin collecting.

Alexander Hamilton a saint? I doubt the husbands of the scores of married women he slept with would agree. (He made Bill Clinton look like a prude.)

I don't think putting a person on a coin is meant to suggest sainthood.

BTW The typical Euorpean female model used to represent Liberty on our coins would not be acceptable today. Our county is very diverse and "Liberty" would need to be also. That would be a whole nother can of worms.

I never meant to suggest Hamilton was a saint rather all this Reagan euphoria is suggesting that Reagan was a saint. And if you are going to condemn Hamilton for infidelity, take a closer look at Washington, Jefferson, FDR and JFK as well.

Again, I generally supported Reagan, but I am amazed by the support from the Democratic side as well, given thier bitter opposition to his policies in the past. Well, if noone else will stand up for Hamilton I will! :D Our first treasury secretary deserves some consideration before we hastily dispose of him due to Reagan euphoria.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we have so little control over this matter it isn't even funny. Our republic has 535 elected officials at the federal level who will decide this one for us, and I'll bet a stack of dimes that the majority couldn't care less about the issue of important people gracing our coins and currency.

They are probably trying to figure out how the issue will play in the media, who can give whom support for something they care about, etc.

The only way for any of us to do anything is to write our elected representative.

    Here is the link: http://www.house.gov/

Now, I would love to see liberty on the coinage we use. Is it feasible after almost 60 years of no Liberty image on any circulating coin?
That is a question I cannot answer.... :(

One thing that must be considered. This current bill is suggesting making the design permanent. That will be coin number 2. We all know the Lincoln cent will be using this law to become permanent design number 3. The current bill for the dollar talks of bringing back Sacagawea. That is number 4. Who doesn't believe that the Kennedy supporters will ask for number 5. That is it ladies and gentlemen. All 6 coins will permanent designs.
How will we be remembered in the pages of history? We have to follow the examples of our founding fathers and look more towards tomorrow than today.
Put your political differences aside and think about the collectors of tomorrow.

Now I agree that any new design is good for the hobby, but what about 100 years from now. Does nobody care that the designs will still be in circulation? How boring is that?

Now I have not chosen to fight this bill because of Reagan or Washington or anyone else. I cannot allow myself to sit by while any permanent design is an option.

    Our founding fathers knew this.

We as collectors know that change is good.

One of the articles in this thread had this to say about adding Reagan to the $10 bill:

"Reagan's face won't be seen on the $10 bill soon...According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, a prospective bill candidate must be dead for at least 10 years."

Not trying to play devils advocate here, but I have a question...

Exactly how permenant will any of these designs be? Can't Congress just pass another bill the next time someone wants to change the bill and ammend the permenance factor?

I see this more as a political play for votes more than a practical permenant status. But I'm bat guano crazy, too!
