I went to the coin shop the other day to get an appraisal on a large cent and saw this little 1956 dime in the folder they keeps their coins in. It was marked BU, and I have found no reason to doubt that. The subtle toning around the edges caught my eye. It was only 4 bucks so how could I not buy it? I also picked up a VG 1913 Barber dime, a G 1924-D Mercury dime (the patina on those old Mercury dimes is sublime. The color of the dime is what sold it) and a garden variety BU 1970-S nickel that just screamed "take me home with you!" for some odd reason. I spent less than $12 bucks and got some nice coins, both MS and with nice patina, three being made of my favorite metal. Apologies for the poor quality pictures.
BTW I turn 75 in 7 days. So for me OLD is before 1941. But I'm still alive and collecting (coins AND years)
You're a Christmas baby? My son is as well, he'll be 16 and getting his first car. This officially makes me old and I'm younger than those coins by at least twenty years.
you're all old LOL btw on the reverse of that dime, is that common for the toning to be "chunky"? I have a 1922 Peace Dollar which is like that though far worse.
Nice purchases. Happy Birthday to those up coming birthdays along with our savior Jesus. I am a young 71 and I also know that ritis brother arth. He is an ornery and painful one. I do like the patina on the coins you bought. Sounds like you got a good Christmas buy.
