    Hello
I was recently going through some old coins that my recently pass Father had collected. One coin appears to be ancient Roman coin knows as Juno Moneta.

Can someone tell me if this coin looks authentic and what approximate value it has?

It's a cast fake unfortunately. One we've seen a few times on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. I'm curious. How do you tell? And do you have any idea when it was made? Do they have any value whatsoever?

Also, I have another replica as well. The Janus Copper 1776 Liberty coin. I understand that a lot of replicas were made and ours was clearly stamped with "copy." Do these have any value? Any info behind their kind?

    Thanks

It's a cast fake, so it is a replica of another coin that copies all the features of that coin(with some defects). I know it's a cast fake because of the defects, it has a rough surface and soft details unlike a struck coin, and because I've seen other cast replicas that were made from the same host coin, for instance in this thread.

As far as value, this coin has none. It's not even worthwhile as a fake because it's a fairly obvious one to even a new collector of ancients(though some cast twins of this type are more deceptive). I'm not sure about value of your other one - it's a modern token rather than an ancient coin and as such you will get more help on that one from the modern collectors.

Thanks so much for the help!! I really appreciate it. We have many other coins that we know are authentic. Modern coins as well. Nice pre-WWII from Germany as my Dad was from there. Fun to go through them. Have a good day! :)

For example, compare it to this one. The chance of two ancients off center in the exact same way with chips and cracks in the exact same places is low enough that we have to get VERY suspicious. Add to that the soft detail and other signs of being cast and there is zero doubt. Value? As a novelty, very little but most get sold to unsuspecting people who do not hang out on Coin Talk or so it seems from the number of these we have seen here.
