I didn't think this day would come (at least not until much later in my life) but I believe I've finally found my collection's official crown jewel! I seriously don't think anything's going to top it this year (unless I somehow manage to get an aureus which is unlikely). Very happy with my latest acquisition, anyone have lifetime Caesar coins they'd like to share? Roman Imperatorial Julius Caesar (49-44 BC) Denomination: silver AR denarius Weight: 3.69 grams Diameter: 18 mm Die Axis: 5 h Struck: 48 - 47 BC Mint: Military mint moving with Caesar in North Africa Obverse: Diademed head of Venus right Reverse: CAESAR, Aeneas advancing left, holding palladium in right hand and carrying his father Anchises on left shoulder References: Roman Republican Coinage (Crawford) 458/1; RBW Collection of Roman Republican Coins (RBW) 1600; History & Coinage of the Roman Imperators (Sear) 55; Roman Silver Coins (RSC) volume I 12 Grade / Comments: near Very Fine, several banker's marks on obverse
Congratulations on your new addition. Any JC coin is special to have in a collection. COINgratulations! JC is nice to have! I have a lifetime issue from just prior to the assassination. It was a "happy medium" coin for me. Nice enough to be acceptable, yet not TOO nice so as to have been unaffordable for me! Like yours, it has a banker's mark. That didn't bother me.
I think I shared mine sometime ago: 18 x 19 mm, 3.741 g Additional references to the one's @Codera shared: Babelon Julia 10; BMCRR East 31; Woytek Arma et Nummi, p. 218 ff;
