    Julius Caesar AR Denarius. Military mint travelling with Caesar, 49-48 BC.

    3.88g, 17mm, 2h. Very Fine. Cabinet patina. Banker’s mark.


    Obverse: Elephant advancing right, trampling on serpent, with banker’s mark. CAESAR in exergue.

    Reverse: Emblems of the pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, securis (surmounted by wolf's head), and apex.

    Provenance - From a European collection. Also in a Roma Numismatics E-Sale.


    The coin is currently in a blank lighthouse 20mm slip to prevent any damage, as opposed to a PVC slip.
