Great addition, Gil-galad!! ... huh, I don't have a Julia Maesa (curious, what year is that baby? ... thanks) => ummmm, not unlike Mat, I love the chick-coins!! (very cool pick-up) Hey, dawg => Spring is just around the corner my friend (turn that frown upside down and pour yourself a nasty glass o' wine!!) Cheers brother!!
Thanks Steve. The year of the coin is not listed. I narrowed the years down to a range. 218-226 AD 218 or later when Elagabalus honored her with the title Augusta avia Augusti (Augusta, grandmother of Augustus), up until she passed away in 226. This is just an assumption, no solid evidence of the years the coin was issued.
I have the same coin. Notice I have the years narrowed down to 218-222AD. JULIA MAESA AR Denarius OBVERSE: IVLIA MAESA AVG - Draped bust right REVERSE: PVDICITIA - Pudicitia seated left, pulling veil and holding scepter Struck at Rome, 218-222 AD 2.6g, 19mm RIC 268, BMC 76 (Elagabalus), S 7756, C 36
I see why you have it narrowed down to those years. I did not know the coin was specifically issued under Elagabalus.
I forgot. I don't have Elagabalus's grandmother but I do have a denarius of his mother, Julia Soaemias: (better in hand, just haven't taken my own shots yet)
Thanks John, much appreciated. I was reading one of your posts and I see you were sick as well. I hope you're feeling better now.
