Hi All, been awhile since I posted here. The Portrait is Great, the reverse not so much. Anyone recognize this Reverse? I have already bid on this coin. It looks legit to me. Opinions most welcome. s-l500 (1).jpg s-l500 (2).jpg

this appears to be a diana lucifera backing.

Holden Tidmore is right on :D, it looks like a Laodicea Mint product, c. AD 196.

I would say Rome rather than Loodicea.

Below is the Laodicea style. This mint usually has a small loop on the drape at the neck as shown below but missing on your coin.

Posting a coin currently up for auction is a good way to lose that coin to someone else if it is something particularly interesting or desirable. Rather than drawing attention to the auction, it's best to pick a person or two for a private conversation if you want an opinion on an active auction coin.

Also keep in mind that other CT members might be targeting the same coin, so if you lose and later someone posts the coin, they didn't necessarily see your post and then "steal" the coin.

Posting active auction coins for opinions generally only increases the price you or the winning bidder has to pay, if the coin you posted turns out to be desirable. Also, at any given time there are always more lurkers than members on CoinTalk so more people than you think may see these posts. Right now, for instance, there are 20 CoinTalk members logged in, 286 lurkers ("guests"), and 34 robots.

That reverse type appears on three different denarii of this empress.

The first, with the inscription IVLIA AVGVSTA (the OP example) and from the Rome mint, is RIC 548/BMCRE 15-19 and was minted under Septimius Severus. My humble example is marred by a big scratch on the obverse:

The second, also with the inscription IVLIA AVGVSTA, was struck at an unknown Syrian mint (traditionally attributed to Laodicea), RIC 638/BMCRE 598 and minted under Septimius Severus:

    Domna DIANA LVCIFERA Antioch Denarius.jpg

The third type, bearing the inscription IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG, was struck in Rome under Caracalla after the death of Septimius Severus. It is RIC 373A/BMCRE 1.

I especially advise you : beware of robots, they don’t have principles and are heartless. Your coin will surely be stolen soon....

I have this coin in my watch list! Solely For the portrait- it is really lovely and she is my favorite (although I am not going to bid as I already have two examples with this reverse!)
