What are the advantagages of joining a coin association like AMA or WINS?

    Is there a recommended association?

If you join certain associations, then you can submit coins to grading companies that otherwise won't allow it (Which is lame IMO)

Well Bert, to join the American Medical Association you have to be a medical doctor, but the American Numismatic Association is open to anyone with an interest in coins. :)

Many of us on the forum are ANA members and enjoy, among other things, its monthly magazine, the right to borrow materials from its very extensive library for merely the cost of two-way postage, and its extensive educational program. You don't have to be a member to attend its major coin shows.

WINS, which many of us also belong to, is primarily an internet-based discussion group with an overlapping, but not identical, membership with CoinTalk.
