Not too often I get to knock off emperors I still need, finally got to knock one off my list, Allectus. It isn't a beauty, but for $27, suites me fine & the obverse is all I cared about. Allectus (293 - 296 A.D.) Billon antoninianus O: IMP C ALLECTVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. R: PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia standing left, globe in right hand, cornucopia in left hand, S in left field, P in right field, ML in exergue. Londinium (London, England) mint 21mm 2.52g RIC V-2 36
I should really calm down before I answer @Mat . Don't want to seem petty and jealous here. Calm down Sallent, deep breath....here we go: "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. I'm so jealous. Wahhh, wahhh" Darn, that did not go well. Quick, blame it on some Russian, say something to distract... "What I meant to say, before being hacked by Putin himself, was that I am very, very happy for you, and I'm in no way jealous of your coin even though I really need and want one to accompany my Carausius." A lonely Carausius in need of Allectus Much better, I don't think anyone suspects my motives now. "People in this forum will believe anything". Wait, did I say that last part out loud? The Sallent Show shall return momentarily......
Any Allectus is nice to have I don't remember seeing one in @Sallent's posts though.... Not very nice either Allectus, Antoninianus Camulodunum mint IMP C ALLECTVS PF I AVG, Radiate and draped bust of Allectus right LAETIT AVG, Laetitia standing left. SP in field, C at exergue 3,84 gr Ref : RC #3591 v, Cohen #13 Q

Cuirassed, radiate, bust London mint 5.1 gm. RIC V (2), Allectus, Quinarius, No. 55: IMP C ALLECTVS P F AVG ............................. VIRTVS AVG ..... (Galley) Q L in reverse exergue. Allectus "Q" coin issue - The reverse depicts a Roman galley - symbolic of the dominant sea power emphasized by the Usurper Augusti. Cuirassed, radiate, bust London Mint. 2.8 gm.
^Lovely examples, guys! Lol, I honestly thought you had him already. My Carausius matches Allectus, good obverse, yuck reverse. Carausius (287 - 293 A.D.) Æ Antoninianus O: IMP C CARAVSIVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: PAX AVG, Pax standing left, holding olive-branch and sceptre; S in left field; P in right field. Camulodunum(?) Mint 4.53g 23mm RIC 475
I'm being really picky in my search for Allectus. I got such a nice Carausius, and I feel it should be paired with an equally eye-catching Allectus. The search continues, but I know one day I'll find the right one at the price I'm willing to pay.
I've got a Carausius that is barely OK. In fact I'm not showing it. I do need an Allectus and would gladly take it off your hands for $30, haha...
NICE job @Mat ! Super price, great sleuthing on your part. I have one of his, with a boat on it: RI Allectus 293-296 AE Quinarius London Virtus Galley AE17 2-3g S 13870 RIC 55 Oh, yeah, forgot I have a calico Ant also: RI Allectus 293-296 CE AE Ant PAX
I am unfortunately not a member of the Allectus club. I did, however, recently join the Carausius club!
But, hey, Allectus murdered Carausius. The devious pirate, the first emperor of the Northwest, born in what’s now Brabant or Flanders, Carausius could have ruled his part of the world. Britain could have broken apart more than a century earlier. But for his murderous treasurer, Allectus. So, I prefer the Carausius club to the Allectus one. Although, if I saw a nice coin...
Because most one-per collectors fill the Carausius with a Pax, I believe the best single Allectus is the galley type. Mine is C mint. Of course you might prefer a matching Pax but I like boats.
Nice find! I was just making a list of the emperors I still need and Allectus is the last one I wrote down before running out of steam. John
I only have 1 coin of Allectus and I honestly never thought I would take a picture of it & post anywhere, nice to see so many others in similar condition. Obv - Radiate, Draped, Cuirassed bust Right Rev - PAX holding Palm Branch & Transverse Sceptre.( or Pax on balance board doin her Circus thing ) S-P in fields ( not visible ) Mintmark - C, Camulodunum( Colchester ) 23-24mm - 3.00g - RIC 90 ?
Despite my aversion against him as an emperor, because he murdered the one and only 'Roman emperor' ever born in the Low Countries, I also have a poor quinarius of Allectus - waiting for a better one. Not easy to see, but there's the drakkar on the reverse, mint is Colchester.
