Man, I've bid on some jewelry (guess that coin belt thread got me thinking again) and... I've lost miserably. Not even close. By over $100. I have some love token bracelets I bought for $150-ish and it might be time to sell 'em. Ones I watched went for over $250 each (and I bid under $150 each for them). If there's any interest, I'll post pictures of them.
OK, for Shortgapbob... excuse the crappy photographs. One day I'll take better ones... I really like the first one. Think band with very nice sounding coins that tink against eachother nicely. Also it has a carved initial coin which is really well done. The second one has a thicker band but it is more wearable (stays on, as opposed to the other one, heh).
Then there's this 10 Morgan Dollar necklace, which is... heavy (as one would imagine). One is a CC, but it's probably not worth much as it's been holed, etc. Third picture is of a carved Peace dollar which I thought was pretty impressive. They did a good job IMHO, was a necklace, but I liked the carved coin and removed it from the bezel.
I guess I like this stuff as it involves coins (a love or I wouldn't be here) with an added obvious human touch. Not sure who, but someone most likely wore this often and that's pretty cool. It meant something to them, and traveled where they went, etc. Also, the time and craftsmanship involved in creating these and adding them to the bracelet, etc. Someone painstakingly carved initials and pictures into these coins. Yes, they are damaged, but I feel they are at least damaged coins in a good way (if there's such a thing).
Very nice and interesting pieces. I think even a non coin collector would find an interest in these pieces. I love the large Morgan necklace. Imagine wearing that around at a coin show. :goofer:
