By coincidence I've acquired three coins of Roman emperors whose (modern-day) names start with "J" (like me ), and thought I'd start a countdown to what will be the ultimate J coin in my collection (and one of the toughest emperors one could acquire). First off is Jovian. I've had him before but I ended up selling or giving away the only two coins I had of him. This one is a very nice replacement Jovian for my collection. I am a sucker for problem-free (small, missing chip at the top aside), detailed late Roman busts like this one , so I had no qualms about picking this one up. And the reverse. Might be boring for some but that clearness, and detail! Heraclea really had some skilled die engravers back in the mid-late 4th century! Please post your own coins of Jovian
That's a real nice Jovian. Is the patina really dark like the image? My only Jovian: JOVIAN AE3 OBVERSE: DN IOVIA-NVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, & cuirassed bust right REVERSE: VOT V MVLT X in four lines across field within wreath; BSIRM Struck at Sirmium 363-4 AD 3.0g, 20mm RIC 118b
i've got a couple jovian coins, a wide eyed heraclean...not as nice as VK's new coin.. and another vot from siscia...
Nice. Jovian is the sort of emperor whose reign would've made other emperors feel good about theirs. My Jovian from Heraclea is similar that way.
Nice!! => sweet OP-coin, Jango (congrats) Hmmm, I only have one Jovian example ... JOVIAN Æ1 - VICTORIAE ROMANORVM 363-364 AD Diameter: 27mm Weight: 8.25 grams Obverse: D N IOVIANV-S P F P P AVG, diademed, draped & cuirassed bust right Reverse: VICTORIAE ROMANORVM, Jovian standing facing, head right, holding labarum & Victory on globe Reference: TESG in ex.
