Okay folks you are the experts! I need help...I have several of the double edge struck Adams and thought I would buy a couple of mint sets with the proceeds from the sale of one of those. Well to make a long story short, sorry I know I am too late, one of the proof sets has a jefferson with a huge copper streak right though his face. I have pictures if anyone is interested in looking (not interested in selling). I showed them to a couple of dealers and all they wanted to do was buy it from me...so I got little to no information on what this could be. After doing a bit of reading I am not sure that this coin would even be graded by ngc, since I am not sure what it's problem is. Any help would be appreciated.
will try...it told me before that photo was too large. I am not able to get my photo to shrink far enough for the 100 kb size allowed.
Just a guess on my part, but I suspect it is a stain due to improper rinsing when the planchets were washed.
No it wouldn't be an error. And yes NGC might not grade it - they might consider it to be environmental damage. Or, they might go right ahead and grade it. But why would you want to have it graded ? Even if they did grade it the stain would keep the coin from being graded high and it would be worth far less than the grading fees would cost you.
Thank you so much for taking time to answer me. My reason for having them graded (actually I thought the slabbing would perserve them better) was for the grandkids, and later years. I have been told many times that I am only a collector, due to the fact that I have picked up odd coins here and there with no rhyme or reason to it. But I would like for the grandkids to be able to see history at it's finest. Now I have an expert, without thought of buying it, to tell me what I need to know. Thank you again.
