Jefferson nickels, what to hang on to.

I have been roll searching for a year or two and have filled 3 1938-1961 albums with the exception of the 50d and 39d. (I had to buy those). While doing this, I have also kept all coins from 1955 and earlier. I now have multiples of all these dates EXCEPT for 1938s, 1939d, 1950d and 1955. I have also collected 45 war nickels of various dates. My question is what to do with all of them? I probably have close to $50.00 face value just sitting in a jar. I know I will keep some lower mintage coins and wars, but should I hang on to the rest? Will they ever be worth anything? Maybe just keep 2-3 of each date?
Anyone need any common date nickels, not including the 30's, (except 1939), 42d, 46s, 48s, 49s, 50, 50d, 51s, 55, as I have none to just one or two of these dates. If so pm me, I need to set some of these free.

I keep the "lower" mintage ones (30-40 million mintage and less). I don't really know what to do with them either right now, but I only have about $24 face value. Also, I have a special affection for nickels, so I'll probably just hold onto them to see if any of my boys get interested in coin collecting when they're older.

I'm keeping anything that is before 1960. I need to get a book to start putting them in :)

I keep anything older than a war nickel. I received one 1939D in a sample of 60 nickels. Maybe not as rare on the West coast.

They're pretty rare. A prolific searcher in Oregon went more than 20 years before finding a 1939D which was the last year he needed to have found every year and mintmark in circulation for Jefferson nickels. You can read about it here: http://forums.wheresgeorge.com/showpost.php?p=4946980&postcount=1

I have logged 1,175 rolls of nickels searched and haven't found one.

I save anything pre 1960. They sell for two times face value if not more in eBay.

I keep pre-war nickels for me and sell nickels from 1946-1961. The wars I usually hold on to to fill a book, but after that, I sell them.

Funny thing is I'm new to hunting, found a nice condition 50d to fill an open album spot and was wondering what they were worth mostly because it was in good condition(common from what I have read). I looked it up and it was more of a score than the war nickels I had been finding. I have been trying to fill a 38-61 album, keeping the 59 and earlier coins.

I found an AU 39d about a month ago. It had a nice gold toning and I sold it on ebay for $11. Pretty decent ROI considering it cost me .05

Save them all pre '64. When you get 40 separate dates/mintmarks roll them, buy a cheap Whitman album and sell it on eBay as a starter kit.
