Why are Nickels found in rolls so hard to find in UNC as compared to all other denominations? I know once it has been to the Bank it is circulated, but there are coins that will grade MS that have been circulated. I have found Nickels with pristine reverses full steps no possible sign of wear then the obverse will have severe scratches on the face or field and vise versa. I am just curios as to where you would go about finding Nickels in BU since they are so common you hardly see any for sale except key dates, silvers, and proofs, so have all the UNC's gone?
You don't normally see BU nickels offered for sale because they are common enough that they don't bring a large enough premium to make them worth the dealers while to stock or list them.
I see plenty of them at local shows for sale. I frequently see singles, both raw and certified, as well as whole BU rolls. Are there any shows near you? Have you checked with a local coin club?
That is true about the amount available at coin shows. They are all over the places. And in any grade, in slabs, raw, in rolls, etc. Nickels are just not a hot item for collectors. And to your question is you do check enough rolls of bags of them, you will find lots and lots of all grades.
