I decided that I needed to increase my knowledge of circulated Jefferson Nickels so I started a circulated Jefferson collection. But I didn't want to use the blue Whitman Folders and I certainly am not going to buy a Dansco for circulated coins so I rummaged through all my miscellaneous stuff and found a wonderful old Capital Plastics Jefferson coin board. Now I'm busy filling some holes. And yes, I confess, I cheated! There are some low grade uncirculated coins filling holes until I can find the date/mm in circulation.
I like it when I find pre-1965 Jeffersons in circulation. I do not have all the years and mintmarks yet.
I am working on a set FIC myself it has been fun but is a real challenge as I only need 4 to complete it. I feel the 39D and 50D will be almost impossible to find as I have found from talking to cashiers at work who know nothing about coins or coin collecting a lot of them tell me they only look for two coins and that is these two nickels. I've audited registers and found silver, wheat cents, buffaloes, Indians, SLQ's but never a 39D or 50D. I want buy them in circulated grade because I am determined to find them and the quest continues.
I was thinking that you didn't want to pay for a Dansco album but a Capital Plastics holder was okay. That costs a LOT!!! But then I saw that you already had it. Well done.
That's a great plan. I CRH nickels and have found at least one of every business strike except for the 39-D, despite finding two 50-Ds. Have fun. I would like to get a holder like that. That's a fun way to display such a collection.
(Dude walks up to Lehigh96) "Hey, buddy, wanna see my Jeff Nickel folders?" (Pulls out his Whitmans) (Lehigh96 replies) "Nice. Here's MY collection..." (Whips out his Capital Plastics holder) BaZinga!
I really like that holder; do you think it an adequate one to hold the coins without damaging them? I have mine in a DANSCO and would love to be able to show them off in that manner.
I have a Lincoln cent capital plastic holder which I paid 8- 10 for at a flee market .. I don't remember but I like it.. Want to hang it on my wall but don't like holes in the walls
I remembered buying a collection a few years back that was in a holder. At the time, I was only interested in the coins. Good thing I didn't throw it out.

I'm not worried about the coins, they are circulated stuff with no real numismatic value. This holder is different than most Capital Plastic holders which are usually all acrylic. This one is a cardboard coinboard housed in a plastic holder. My uncirculated Jefferson album is in an Intercept Shield holder.
Capital doesn't make and sell that line of holder any longer. As I recall that style holder dates to the 1970's - 1980's. The longstanding Capital product using three layers of Plexiglass are relatively expensive, retail is about $85 or so for the BVD style holders the last time I checked. I have had good luck finding the size of holder I need on eBay. Prices are significantly less. This would be a good opportunity for people to chime in and complain about how cheap the plastic screw devices are. (They have a problem because they try to cinch them too tight.)
