Ok I posted in a thread a few days ago that the year 2013 would be the 75th year of the Jefferson nickel. The orginal thread posted gave an account of the Jefferson Nickel and it's changes over the years. Now a few of us in her are truely nickel nuts. Now I know the collectors in this forum come from every walk in life from all over the globe. Many have their favorites when it comes to collecting. With mine being the five cent piece my question is this.....If by chance the US Mint were to produce a 75 anniversary coin using lets say minted in .9999 silver ,and in the orginal design that Fleix Schlag designed would you be tempted to purchase one? Even thro you don't collect this series.

Not so much a Commem.... but a new design and tribute to Schlag and his art deco design, as it was scraped , and most people are not aware of how nice his orginal design really did look . Plus it be struck in silver not done since the WWll years!

Please post a photo of the SEGS FSNC coin so everyone can see the design you are talking about. I want one of each, the FSNS coin and the one you are proposing. Is there a petition process for coinage design?

012.jpg 011.jpg Done....This is what the 1938 design looked like when Fleix Schlag won the rights to design the new Jefferson Nickel. However The US Treasury / Mint made him change the winning design to what we now know as the Jefferson nickel as minted in both Proof and Ms in 1938. another fact there were 19,496,000 P, 5,376,000 D ,and 4,105,000 S MS minted for circulation and only 19,365 proofs! Also remember that there were also Buffalo nickels minted in 1938 from Denver 6,620,000 & San Fran 400,000 minted.

Interesting Eire. I have never seen that design before. Are any of these around?

Only 1938 Proof copies & 1938 matte finish copies were made for the fun show . These were struck in silver and noted on the obv. that they were copies. Now rare to find I have had several people ask me to sell mine...they are not for sale! Just thought it be very cool to mark Schlags art deco design 75 years later. With his award winning design. I also believe it woud make some money for the mint / treasury and put some Bling back into our coinage.

This design would show the best detail and follow along the typical commemorative if they were to enlarge it to put it on a half dollar or silver dollar. But, I'd settle for anything, and likely purchase one regardless.

No the coin would have to be the same size as a nickel. The reason being is that Schlag won the contest and design but his design was scraped. The reason this coin would be minted would be to honor his orginal design. To make it a timeless part of our coinage once and for all.
