Jefferson First Spouse lets speculate

Ok, is this the next gem such as the 1995 Silver Eagle W or the Jackie Robinson proof commerative? I think it may be going in that direction and here is why I can see prices over $1000 by Christmas.

    1) The Drape Bust being on the obverse says it all, no need to say anything else.

    2) The collectibility of this series was questioned because of the vast amount of capital required if you want every first spouse which could easily exceed $10,000, so many are speculating the collectibility for the not so rich will focus on the bachelor coins.

    3) The limit for the 2 previouse first spouse coins was 5 per household, whereas with the Jefferson 1 per household. This reduces the hoarding and the ebay speculators that said I will buy a couple for myself and throw the rest on ebay. Now with the limits collectors will be faced with the question do I dump my only 2 and have none or do I sit on them and possibly watch them take off in price. This limit I believe will be huge and drasitically reduce the supply in the ebay market which will therefore drive prices up.

    4) Available just in time for the start of the Christmas shopping season.

    5) The uniqueness of this coin of not having a first spouse on the obverse of the coin when the coin is labeled as part of the First SPouse series can only help prices.

October 1st prices for coins in hand- $800
    November 1st- $900
    December 1st- $1000

Of course this is only my wild guess based on the above factors.

I can't guess the exact amount, but I'm sure this coin will be the most valuable of the series. Not only is it intrinsically more desirable, but most people collecting them will not have any spare ones to sell.

I think it's because people who bought the first two issues at $800-$1000 got burned and aren't going to repeat the same mistake. The price is likely to rise, but more slowly. This is probably a good time to pick one up if you missed out on the Mint sale.

Or it could be that the novelty is wearing off, the hype is dying down, and people are beginning to realize that these coins will be no different than other modern commems and that the price is not going to shoot to the moon like all the speculators and those wishing to make money off of others want you to believe.

and most of all. as i said it before. mintage at 20,000 for gold is high. and people collect silver much much more than gold. well, my order for first two spouses were cancelled by the mint. i might as well cancel my third spouse gold.

Jefferson's popularity plus the obverse should make this coin a MUST for collectors, I know some collectors that missed out and would like to have one. I DON'T think the price will rise as fast as before, due to the sagging economy, so I look for Christmas prices to be tops for some time to come!! Coins are like everything else, they're victims of cycles and we've all seen this UP cycle for a LONG time, it's time for a correction!! I personally would find it hard to sell my Jeff.

I hate to admit it but I am beginning to fall into your camp on this. The prices on Ebay are disapponiting, still though I am going to put together an unc set.

Maybe because the first 2 sold out in 2 hours and the 3rd is still available at the mint. So why would ebay sales soar for coins still available from the mint?

They sold out in 2 hrs and 17 minutes.

2 hrs and 17 minutes with the restrictions that they had, shows that there was a lot of demand for this coin. I'm debating on what to do. Do I sale my proof and make back some of the cost of the UNC, or do I presale both of them and try to make enoguh money to buy a nice mint state 1924's or 1927's peace dollar for my collections? Years from now I feel the peace dollar will be worth more than these first spouse coins, but you never know what the future will bring.

The hype of the first two coins probably has a lot to do with the current prices of the coin. Maybe people realize that a pre sale can be an ordeal in itself. Maybe we could give it a little time . Seems like there are some decent buys on the first two that up until recently were beyond what many people would or could pay. Maybe people are just tired of all the hype and tired of spending money for collector made coins (I kind of believe this) . Maybe people are just plain tired of spending money. Every where you look money, money, money... Sorry got off the subject.

I know this may be a stupid comment but maybe collectors are beginning to realize that you can buy these coins directly from the mint instead of having to go through E-Bay or the coin vault.. Naw just wishful thinking. I can not wait to see big Robert hype this coin up. Wonder if he is related to P.T. Barnum.

The worse case scenario.... I or we will have a nice time frame to either cancel orders or return it for a full refund less shipping and handling. If you decide to keep them , then you may end up with a nice chunk of beautiful gold that you will have about a $100 in each after you take into account the current bullion price of gold. Oh I did say the worse case senerio didn't I, Sorry .

I am glad that I am a collector. It is nice to see prices of coins you purchase going up even if you never intend on selling them. I think maybe it is nicer not to worry about all that. Good luck to all.

I'd be concerned about the ridiculous values of gold right now being a major downward risk on this investment.

That's what I've been thinking. I think I'd be much happier getting a nice peace dollar or something for my type set.
